Sibshops provide support and guidance to siblings of children with special developmental needs.

Siblings are encouraged to share the challenges and celebrate the joys with brothers and sisters in similar situations. Sibshops are lively, action packed, 2-hour workshopsd that celebrate the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Sibshops acknowledge that being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, for others a not-so-good thing, and for many, something in between. They reflect a belief that brothers and sisters have much to offer one another – if they are given a chance. The Sibshop model mixes information and discussion activities with new games (designed to be unique, off-beat, and appealing to a wide ability range). There are currently more than 200 Sibshops across the United States, Canada, and elsewhere.

Integrated Services' Spring Parent Academy: Parents as Partners

 

Thursday March 29th, 6-8pm at Lesher Middle School

 

Parent Academy is offered by Integrated Services staff in order to connect with all parents/guardians of students receiving special education services.  Our goal is to provide you with cutting edge information on topics related to your child's special needs.

 

Spring Topics include: (see link for session details)

·         Making School Connections and Fostering Friendships

·         Math and Literacy Strategies for Home

·         Promoting Well-Being for Parents of Children with Special Needs

 

There will also be a community resource fair with an emphasis on:                      

·         Summer opportunities for children with special needs

·         Self-care support and resources for parents/guardians

March 30^th:         Special Olympics Track and Field Day Registration Deadline.  The Event is May 4^th, 2012 at FRHS.  Middle School and High School students are eligible.

April 26-28^th:      PEP Conference (Parents Encouraging Parents) April Conference is in Steamboat Springs.

Each two and one-half day PEP Conference begins Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. and continues through Saturday afternoon until 3:00 p.m. The Colorado Department of Education pays for all lodging and participant meals (excluding Friday evening's meal). With these provisions to participants, we hope to provide the opportunity of the PEP experience to all interested families!

 

                                I'll be attending PEP in April and I'd love for you to join me!  Registration is easy.

Sensory Friendly Films

AMC Cinema Saver 6 is hosting a showing of
"Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" for the Autism community.
Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 10 am
2525 Worthington Circle, Fort Collins, CO


 It will follow the national guidelines for Sensory friendly movies.
1. No trailers or previews.
2. Lights will be turned up.
3. Sound will be turned down.
4. you can bring your own Gluten free food.
5. Kids can get up and move around and rule of no talking will be Ok.

Parents, Don't Miss the 2012 Transition Series beginning Feb. 23rd!

 

Mark your calendars!  Next Thursday February 23^rd begins the  2012 Poudre School District Transition Series.

If you have student's ages 14 and over with special needs you are not going to want to miss this opportunity.  This evening series is designed for parents/guardians and students with special needs to gain invaluable information about school district, community, and federal programs, services, and opportunities for students as they transition out of high school. 

 

You can choose to attend one evening or all three.  It's never too early (or too late) to start learning.
